United Kingdom

An estimated 100,000–200,000 Kurds live in the United Kingdom, with large communities in London (particularly Hackney, Haringey, and Islington), Manchester, and Birmingham. Many arrived as asylum seekers following the 1988 Anfal campaign and the conflicts of the 1990s. Turning introductions into real support, collaboration, and opportunity.

Kurdish Students in the United Kingdom

The Kurdish Cultural Centre in London (Lambeth) has been a hub of community life since the 1980s. London Kurdish Film Festival, the Kurdistan National Congress, and various student societies at UCL, King's College, SOAS, and other universities keep the community active.

UK universities offer world-class education with a strong tradition of Middle Eastern and Kurdish Studies. SOAS University of London has one of the most established programs in Kurdish language and culture. The Russell Group universities attract many Kurdish graduate students on competitive scholarships.

Post-Brexit changes affect EU students but most Kurdish students enter on international student visas. The UK government's Chevening Scholarship and university-specific funding offer pathways for students from Kurdish regions. This hub connects the UK Kurdish student community.
